Restoring Our Spiritual Home

Built in 1926, our beautiful church is at the center and foundation for all we do as a parish. It was badly damaged after the Northridge earthquake, and was repaired and retrofitted at that time. But since 1995, we estimate that over six million people have walked through the doors of our parish to attend a mass, a wedding, a baptism, or to simply stop in and pray. That very heavy use means our church needs serious attention. Our hope is that this revitalization project will bring new life to our spiritual home.

Please join us in in renewing and restoring the centerpiece of our community and spiritual lives.

Why?

When we first embarked on plans to refurbish and renovate the interiors of our buildings, it was to address issues of safety, aesthetics and maintenance after decades of heavy and continual use, as well as to prepare for the future needs of our parish community. In the spirit of Pope Francis, our approach to the renovation has been one of moderation, restraint and simplicity.

We have recently completed the first part of our two-part renovation project – the rectory. As you know, this building is the home to our pastor and priest associates. The building had not been significantly upgraded since it was built in 1926, other than minor fixes. The renovation included plumbing, electrical and other structural improvements.

We now turn our attention to OUR spiritual home, the church!

We are appealing to our community for the church renovation throughout the summer and fall. Our goal is to begin work in January 2018 when the building’s usage is at a minimum – fewer weddings, no graduations, etc. Our hope is that other generous members of our community will donate to this worthy project!

Details

Our plans for the church restoration:

  • Repair and refinish the pews
  • Repair and polish the floors
  • Update the outdated lighting and electrical systems
  • Polish and clean the marble above the altar
  • Reinforce the stairs to the choir loft
  • Upgrade the audio system
  • Renovate the sacristy
  • Paint the interior walls
  • Repair and update the donor wall in the vestibule

Since we began fundraising in October 2016, we were able to complete the rectory renovation. The church refurbishments will require additional fundraising to fully complete all the needs we have identified. The biggest expense is in updating the lighting and electrical systems with newer, greener and more energy-efficient technologies. With these updated systems, we can offer light, bright and fully-functioning lighting, while keeping the decorative fixtures that give the interior of our church its charm and beauty.

Thanks

Thank you to our generous donors who have supported the renovation project to date:
