All Parishes Remain Closed (May 23–24)

This morning, José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, wrote to all the priests in the Archdiocese, "We are getting closer to reopening our parishes. But unfortunately, we are not at a point yet where we can do so safely," clarifying that "our churches remain closed this weekend and until further notice."

The Archbishop recently granted a dispensation to the faithful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and so all are encouraged to remain #StillStMonica by joining our two Sunday livestreams, 9:30 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. and during the week, daily at 12:10 p.m.

We all long for the time when we can gather once again and proclaim, "All Are Welcome!" At the same time, I also want to acknowledge the fear, vulnerability, and struggle of those that, even as we begin to re-open, will decide to remain at home. Just as each of us are on different journeys in our faith, we too are on different paths to returning to our 'normal' lives, forever changed. We must be prudent in our approach to opening, ensuring we are fully equipped to ensure the safety and comfort of those gathering, and trust in the spirit and wisdom of the holy spirit as we journey to Pentecost.

I pray for each one of you, and I ask you to keep St. Monica and all its parishioners in your prayers as well. Abundant blessings and peace, this Memorial Day weekend.

In gratitude,

Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson

Pastor
