Underage drinking can certainly get your teen into a lot of trouble — loss of driving privileges, fines, and even criminal charges. But underage drinking can also cause significant brain damage. An adolescent’s brain does not fully develop until the age of 25. Early alcohol use can affect that development, causing memory problems and potential dependency on alcohol later in life. For more information to share with your teenagers, read the VIRTUS® article, “Underage drinking isn’t just illegal, it damages the brain” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
