Some parents seem to struggle with, or just do not understand the importance of being on time for school or for pick-up at the end of a team practice. Children and other parents notice persistent tardiness and concerns about possible neglect may arise. In today’s climate, a well-meaning parent who steps in to assist with offers to drop-off or pick-up another child may, even under the best of circumstances, become suspect for showing “too much” interest in a child who is not theirs. It is important to find ways to engage parents on such important responsibilities early on. One way to start the process is by inviting them to come together to talk about issues and to brainstorm policies and solutions.
