How do you ‘play’ Jesus? How do you jump into the role of all roles, the savior of the world? Actor Jonathan Roumie portrays Jesus in “The Chosen” and he will come to us for an evening to share about his acting, his journey of faith and his spiritual life as a St. Monica’s parishioner.
Jonathan Roumie is an actor-director-producer & musicia. He is best known for his groundbreaking role as Jesus in the popular series The Chosen, the #1 crowdfunded media project in history, currently streaming in every country on the planet. He has also appeared on “Chicago Med”, The Mindy Project,” “The Good Wife,” “The Newsroom,” “Law and Order,” and “NCIS,” among other shows. Some of his notable Voice-Over work includes voice-matching Michael Douglas for Marvel's "Antman and Wasp" and British actor, Henry Golding in "Crazy Rich Asians". He serves as VP on the boards of two non-profits media companies, Catholics in Media Associates and The G.K. Chesterton Theatre Co., and was recently nominated for Papal Knighthood by the Order of St. Gregory the Great.
Fr. David Guffey is a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, living in-residence and assisting at St. Monica, Although he regularly preaches and presides at sacraments, his full-time job is National Director of Family Theater Productions, where he has worked since 2008. Fr. David also gives retreats and talks on spirituality, faith and media, and Catholicism and film. He is a Notre Dame football enthusiast and he loves to travel, besides of course being a film buff.
Fr. David grew up in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, where both his parents and sister (with her husband and six children) still live. He received a BA in American Studies and a Master of Divinity from the University of Notre Dame and an MFA in film and television production at Loyola Marymount University. He was ordained a priest of Holy Cross in 1991. Fr. David’s work with Family Theater Productions and the Congregation of Holy Cross often take him out of town for meetings and projects.
