"Taking a child, He place it in their midst, and putting His arms around it, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever received me, received not me but the One who sent me." Mark 9:36-37
El Hogar Ministry is one of the oldest outreach ministries at St. Monica. El Hogar, located in Tijuana, Mexico, houses 30 to 35 children and teens, ranging in age from infant to college students, who have had challenging experiences in their young lives. For over twenty years, St. Monica has provided funding for scholarships, extra curricular activities, and counseling, along with school supplies, clothes, food and basic necessities for the orphanage.
Consider giving a gift to El Hogar, perhaps as a tribute in honor of a birthday or wedding or in memory of a loved one.
Gifting the children of El Hogar this Christmas
The parishioners of St. Monica’s have generously supported the children of El Hogar over the last 30 years. Traditionally, we have asked parishioners to purchase shoes, pajamas, or underwear for the children, but because of changes in El Hogar regulations, we are asking parishioners to make monetary donations for these gifts instead.
In the spirit of giving this Christmas season, consider giving a cash donation to support the children of El Hogar. A donation of as little as $10 can purchase bath soap and shampoo; $15 can purchase a set of pajamas for a child or; $25 can purchase uniformed tennis shoes. A generous donation of $50 or more can allow each child to have the complete holiday gift set from the parish.
Stop by the El Hogar Table in the Duval Center the weekends of December 2-3 and 9-10 to make a donation. You can also donate online y clicking the button above.
Annual Christmas Trip to El Hogar
Join the El Hogar Ministry on its annual trip to El Hogar in Tijuana to celebrate “Little Christmas” on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018. Depart St. Monica at 7:00 a.m. and return at 9:00 p.m. The cost of the trip is $70, which includes transportation and lunch. Online registration is now closed.
We will spend the day having lunch with the children, working on crafts and projects together, and time with Santa! It is a great way to spend Epiphany!
