Child abuse victims are often scared and anxious to tell a trusted adult about the abuse they have suffered. These fears prevent a majority of victims from telling their parents, teachers, or other trusted adults about abuse, which, sadly, perpetuates the cycle. Victims may be afraid that they will get in trouble, or will not be believed, or will be ashamed or criticized. For information on how to overcome or counteract these fears, read the VIRTUS® article “Barriers Minors Face to Disclosing Child Sexual Abuse” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
