2024/2025 Children's Faith Formation Schedule

Thank you for your interest in Faith Formation at St. Monica Catholic Community. Our preparation year is well underway. Please email for registration information.

General Information

We offer comprehensive programs of faith formation sessions for children ages three through grade 8. We gather in person from 10:45 am until 12:00 pm most Sundays, following a typical school year calendar.  In the meantime families will be gathering in their homes to complete lessons and have great conversations about God!

Our programs include:

  • Early Childhood Education: Children ages 3 through kindergarten are invited to join ECE, a fun and interactive program designed just for them! Each session will include fun lessons, crafts, music and movement to share our faith together and learn all about Jesus' love for us!
  • Sacramental preparation for Eucharist and Reconciliation:Children in first grade or older can begin this process to prepare to receive First Eucharist. In our family-based, 2-year program, parents are required to attend sessions. We will explore the gift of Faith at Home and how to integrate it into your daily lives all the while preparing for the sacraments. Students in their 2nd year prepare for the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation as part of their regular faith formation sessions.

If your child is 7 years or older and not yet baptized,

please inquire about our preparation process.

  • Bridges of Faith: Children in grades 3-5 who have received First Eucharist are fully incorporated into our community as we offer sessions with the whole family, every generation! We grow in faith together to create lifelong faith formation centered around the events of the Church.
  • IGNITE Middle School Program: Our 6-8 graders enjoy a separate fellowship program, meeting for sessions designed around activities, conversations, and topics that most apply to them!
  • High School Confirmation:Please see this page (stmonica.net/teen) for information about our Teen Confirmation Program for students in grades 9-12. If your teen has already been confirmed, they are welcome to join our program as Peer Leaders, where they can help design each session and activity.

FORMATION FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

We also offer special sessions, grade level family retreats, resources, and faith formation programs throughout the entire year designed to include parent participation to help strengthen the faith life of the whole family.

Through our program, we hope that families will come to a fuller and richer experience of the presence of God in their lives and grow in their mission of being Christ's disciples in our world.

Volunteering

Interested in Volunteering?

Please refer to our volunteer page with more information about how to get involved.

Safeguard the Children

As part of our program, all grade levels participate in the VIRTUS® Empowering God's Children Program for Children as mandated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. These sessions are designed to empower our children to safeguard themselves and others around them, and to learn to speak out to trusted adults when they are in need.

All volunteers who work with children and teens in any capacity at St. Monica are required by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to complete the VIRTUS Training session “Protecting God’s Children,” and be fingerprinted with a background check. They cannot enter a classroom as a primary catechist until this process is completed.  This includes all volunteers and catechists in our Faith Formation Program and our Youth Ministry/Confirmation Program for teens. Financial Assistance

We understand that some families are unable to pay the tuition fee all at once, and some are only able to afford a portion of the fee. We ask that you consider what you are able to commit to paying between now and May 2025 so that we can plan our budget. Please note: Only registered parishioners are eligible for financial assistance.

To apply for a payment plan and/or financial assistance, fill out the Scholarship Application available on the registation page. Once we receive your form, we will contact you to discuss details. If you have any questions please contact Danielle Villalobos at
