Into the Future: Next Steps for the Ministry

The summer of 2024 was a busy one for St. Monica Africa Ministry! The ministry successfully sponsored its first trip back to Dandora, Kenya , since before the pandemic, with 21 travelers from St. Monica witnessing firsthand their love of our Lord, the beauty of Kenya, and checking in on how our support over the years benefits the people of Holy Cross Church. Once again, this year’s Ministry Cooperative Appeal supported the Holy Cross Mission Center in their work to raise funds to support the vulnerable in Dandora. A total of $114,000 was raised which will support the building of two water wells for the local community and the purchase of schoolbooks for the children of St. James. Thank you, St. Monica, for your generosity!

The fall will be no less eventful for St. Monica Africa Ministry. Our Race for Veronica’s Place Team in partnership with the LA Marathon begins its quest to raise funds to support a food distribution program that supports 500 HIV/AIDS patients in the Dandora community. Meet with the R4VP Team and see how you can help at Coffee & Doughnuts on October 20 after all the morning liturgies at the Grand Pavilion Patio. This fall, we have a special invite for parishioners who feel called to participate in the launch of a re-envisioned Africa Ministry.

Over the past 20 years St. Monica’s community, you the Parishioners,  have responded to the needs of our sister Parish, Holy Cross Dandora.  We’ve supported many successful endeavors including:

  • Building and supporting schools, hospital, and a new church
  • Providing safe drinking water
  • Feeding those impacted by HIV aids with food and care
  • Educating and engaging the youth with school funding and youth programs and so much more

Now in 2024 we are re-envisioning the Ministry and positioning ourselves for growth and sustainability.  Changes we are introducing will:

  • Create more opportunities for parishioners (you!) to be involved: the need is great, and we need you to carry on the success
  • Focus on priorities with greatest impact and care
  • Grow and share our faith, together strengthening our relationship with each other and with our loving God

If ever you thought about being involved in the Africa ministry, or if this is new to you and you’re curious, we invite you to join us to learn more about the Ministry and opportunities to be part of this exciting community. Contact  to get involved.
