Our patron saint, Saint Monica was one inspiring mother; she never gave up on her son and over years of prayer was able to help steer his life towards God. As mothers in our St. Monica community, we all want the same. We want to be there for our children. We want to provide support, security, love and help to foster their connections with God. However, this is a hard job!

While no one said it would be easy, sometimes moms just need a venue to share with other moms and receive spiritual support on their journey with God. While the pandemic surely has not made the mom journey any easier, it has provided new options.

Advent Season

To prepare for the Christmas season, we selected the book, I am Mary, an Advent Devotional written by Carol maryHoward Merritt.

We believe that this devotional is a perfect way to prepare for the Christmas Season, in what is sure to be a year to remember. Following the Gospel of the birth of Christ, I am Mary is written from the perspective of Mary, the unwed teenage peasant girl who courageously answered God's call to bear our savior. We will follow young Mary as she experiences the surprise, confusion, fear, anticipation, and blessings that followed her brave response to God's call: "Here am I, Lord."  From the first Sunday of Advent through Christmas Day, each daily devotion includes a scripture verse, a reflection, and a prayer. Gather with us on a remarkable Advent journey with the blessed ordinary girl who became the holy and revered Mother of God. We will discuss our experiencing and faith-sharing during our weekly Tuesday gathers (See Registration tab on how to gather with us.)

About MOMs

Mothers of Monica (MOMs) is a mothers’ community ministry designed to foster fellowship, charity, and spiritual growth of our Catholic faith for ourselves, our children and for the St. Monica Catholic Community. It is at its core a community of Catholic moms working together to facilitate discernment of critical decisions and situations we mothers face. We will engage mothers in spiritual discussions, prayer and fellowship; minister to our mothers by presenting them with opportunities of fellowship, service and prayer; create for them a safe forum to reflect on their current states and needs; and provide them with advice and resources on child-care, child rearing, and other related discussion topics.

MOMs was started in 2020 in response to a growing need for spiritual support following the COVID-19 Pandemic. Co-Founders Debora Sanchez (mother of Gus) and Cheryl Thode (mother of Nicholas) felt there was a rising need for spiritual and communal support for the St. Monica Mothers. While St. Monica is blessed to have a robust women’s ministry, there was a need for a ministry focused on mothers. With the closures of the schools, day cares, and remote working found most forms of "work" that most moms normally perform grew exponentially. MOMs is designed to become a group of Christian women looking for other moms with whom to relate, moms who understand the unique challenges of juggling motherhood, family, faith, work, and self.

Who is invited to participate in MOM?

ALL Mothers, i.e. single, married, old, young, etc. ALL MOMS ARE WELCOME! If you are a mother seeking fellowship, encouragement and an enrichment of your Catholic faith as you balance the joys and trials of motherhood, YOU ARE WELCOME. Whether you are a first-time mother, a mom going through the crazy grade school years, a mother of a teen, a mother of a high schooler, a grandmother with years of wisdom under her belt, WE WANT YOU!
