Danielle Villalobos,

Our patron saint, Saint Monica was one inspiring mother; she never gave up on her son and over years of prayer was able to help steer his life towards God. As mothers in our St. Monica community, we all want the same. We want to be there for our children. We want to provide support, security, love, and help to foster their connections with God. However, this is a hard job!

While no one said it would be easy, sometimes moms just need a venue to share with other moms and receive spiritual support on their journey with God. While the pandemic surely has not made a mother’s journey any easier, it has provided new options.

About MOMs

Mothers of Monica (MOMs) is a mothers’ community ministry designed to foster fellowship, charity, and spiritual growth of our Catholic faith for ourselves, our children, and for the St. Monica Catholic Community. It is at its core a community of Catholic moms working together to facilitate discernment of critical decisions and situations we mothers face. We will engage mothers in spiritual discussions, prayer, and fellowship; minister to our mothers by presenting them with opportunities for fellowship, service, and prayer; create for them a safe forum to reflect on their current states and needs; and provide them with advice and resources on child-care, child-rearing, and other related discussion topics.

MOMs was started in 2020 in response to a growing need for spiritual support following the COVID-19 Pandemic. Co-Founders Debora Sanchez (mother of Gus) and Cheryl Thode (mother of Nicholas) felt a rising need for spiritual and communal support for the St. Monica Mothers. While St. Monica is blessed to have a robust women’s ministry, there was a need for a ministry focused on mothers. With the closures of the schools, daycares, and remote working, most forms of “work” that most moms normally perform grew exponentially. MOMs is designed to become a group of Christian women looking for other moms with whom to relate, moms who understand the unique challenges of juggling motherhood, family, faith, work, and self.

Who is invited to participate in MOM?

ALL Mothers, i.e. single, married, old, young, etc. ALL MOMS ARE WELCOME! If you are a mother seeking fellowship, encouragement, and an enrichment of your Catholic faith as you balance the joys and trials of motherhood, YOU ARE WELCOME. Whether you are a first-time mother, a mom going through the crazy grade school years, a mother of a teen, a mother of a high schooler, or a grandmother with years of wisdom under her belt, WE WANT YOU!
