Fr. Dave: Lourdes & Health Update!

fr. david 4Fr. Dave Ayotte is on pilgrimage this week in Lourdes, France. We continue our prayers for his health.

Health Update - Aug. 26:

Hard to believe that my last update was July 4th. I have had two CAT scans since that time and oodles of challenges surfaced facing my family.  So I’ll try to stay focused on the most significant areas.

On July 20th I received an amazing report that the tumor in my pancreas had shrunk to such an extent, that that the radiologist said it was no longer measurable – and so termed it “resolved”.  While the tumors in the liver remained, nothing new was growing and in fact a few of the tumors were shrinking.  That news definitely led to a lot of cheering in the family and among parishioners. Even got a standing ovation at one mass when it was announced.

I would like to say that that progress has continued. Regrettably, the balance between chemo and side effects from chemo meant I was taken off of chemo for a period of three weeks. During that time the cancer has not only spread but set me back to almost the place I was 8 months ago. The tumor in the pancreas has grown back and new tumors have shown up within and outside the liver. It seems that the cancer has developed a resistance to the original clinical trial drug. That has led my doctors and the research team at Angeles Clinic to take me off the clinical trial.  I am currently exploring other centers and agencies for new possible trials. Given the aggressive nature of the cancer and its rapid adaptation, I hope to know within the next few days if another agency would accept me. Your prayers are key at this time, as always.

Prayer for Fr. Dave

Lord God, come to our aid!
Help us now, Lord in your kindness!

We have faith in you Lord God, to heal our brother David of the affliction he bears.
Grant him full healing through the power of the name Jesus Christ.
In the healing waters of Lourdes, may your grace bring complete healing of body, mind and soul.

We hope in you, Lord. We place our trust in you. We pray the miracle of total healing is your will for him. You have called David to live among us and to serve our community; may his service continue, preaching your word powerfully and showing us by his example how to follow you.

Lord, you have shown us the greatest love of all by emptying yourself, giving your life for us on the Cross. By your all-encompassing love, transform this illness into a grace and blessing.
Open our brother’s heart and mind to the tremendous power of your love.
Let him know your tremendous care for him in the depths of his being.
Grant him your salvation and love every moment of this extraordinary journey.

David is a child of God, created in God’s image and likeness, and now given this cross.

Lord Jesus, help us assist him in bearing the weight of this cross.

Lord God, come to our aid!

Amen.
