SMASH has been a mainstay event in the St. Monica Catholic Community. Now in its 28th year, SMASH funds ensure that quality education and formation remains accessible to the St. Monica families who would not be able to afford it otherwise. Currently, over 200 students receive need-based financial aid. SMASH also benefits a separate endowment for lay formation and training in our Parish community. This fund, established in 1997, supports the education of numerous leaders in ministries throughout our community, including Youth Faith Formation leaders, Catechists, Liturgical and other Ministries, as well as staff continuing education.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. - Eph 1:18
For SMASH 2021 our community is being asked to “Be the Light.” For choir members who want to attend RECongress, students in need of tuition support, or funding for parish programs like JustFaith and Stephen Ministry, SMASH is a community event that brings our Schools and Parish together to take care of the least of ours. We can be the light to each other by supporting our #StillStMonica Community, but of course, we need your help to ensure this rich heritage for years to come.
SMASH will honor two amazing couples that are part of the fabric and heritage of our community. Our Hands of Monica Honorees, Andy and Rose Marie Layman, are active members of our community, having been married at St. Monica and supporting our schools for many years. In fact, our Heart of Monica Honorees, Ed and Sharlene Stokx, had their first date at their prom at St. Monica High School! Each couple represents a legacy of giving, support, and love for our community, and they each demonstrate the true spirit of “Be the Light.”
SMASH will be a one of kind hybrid event this year, offering in-person as well as online options for participating. Not sure what that means? CLICK HERE to watch a video from St. Monica parents Julie and Dan, showing us that whether we are onsite or at home, SMASH is sure to be a St. Monica extravaganza!
