In California, a mandated reporter is a professional who is required to report instances or suspected instances of child abuse. Mandated reporters include doctors, medical examiners, health care facility workers, daycare workers, school employees, and members of the clergy.

Volunteers of public or private organizations whose duties require direct contact with, and supervision of children are not mandated reporters but are encouraged to obtain training in the identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles encourages all in our church to speak up to the appropriate authorities if any form of child abuse is suspected. Find out more about mandated reporters at childwelfare.gov.
