Knowing the difference between age-appropriate and inappropriate behaviors in children can help safe adults determine whether something feels “off” about a child’s behavior and could indicate potential sexual abuse. For preschool children and young children (around ages 4-6), exploring their bodies is natural. They are not yet old enough to understand the idea of “private” naturally, and may also be curious about others’ bodies – parents, friends, etc. These behaviors are common and developmentally appropriate for their age and stage.
