What is Scripture Encounter? It is an encounter with the Word.

Scripture Encounter: Part II

583px the calling of saint matthew caravaggo 1599 1600In September 2013, Pope Francis gave a remarkable interview in which he was asked: “Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?” His answer was “I am a sinner”, but more concretely, he explained that he was thinking about Caravaggio’s painting The Calling of St. Matthew (pictured at right) saying: “That’s me. I feel like him … Here, this is me, a sinner whom the Lord has turned his gaze."

From tax collector to evangelist, St. Matthew leaves us a rich gospel driven by the question of sin, of what it means to be Christian and Jewish and to encounter the risen Lord.

Scripture Encounter Part II

"What do you want me to do for you?"

They Answered him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."

Mt 20:32-33

We will be journeying together through the second half of Matthew’s Gospel; reading, praying and discussing the Word of God. Breaking the word open together helps us to encounter Christ and grow as his disciples and in community.

That's A Wrap!

Scripture Encounter journeyed through Matthew’s Gospel: reading, praying and discussing the Word of God. Breaking the word open together helped them to encounter Christ and grow as his disciples and in community. In the words of one of the participants:

“I enjoy the Scripture Encounter because of the opportunity it provides me to interact with individuals who share the same goal of a desire to move closer to God by going deeper to understand His words and letting them come alive.  Studying the scripture by myself, I am limited to my own experience, understanding, and interpretations, however, the group discussions allow me to expand beyond my own realm of understanding and provide me with insight to grow in faith.”

We thank the team around Steve, Glenda, Marianne, Angie, Martin, and Jim.
