What is Scripture Encounter? It is an encounter with the Word.
Have you ever wanted to explore the Bible, but felt overwhelmed or got stuck, not knowing where to begin? Scripture Encounter offers both drop-in and enrollment sequences for everyone's busy schedule, to help you start your own course of study in the Bible.
Saturdays | 9:00 a.m. | Conducted on Zoom
Fr. Prosper will lead us on a curated tour of the Bible focusing on two essential elements: Characters of the Bible and the Lectionary for the week.
For the month of December, our focus will be on Women of the Bible, in addition to the weekly readings.
Meetings are every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. via zoom. Pre-registration is required. You only need to register once to access all sessions.
In September 2013, Pope Francis gave a remarkable interview in which he was asked: “Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?” His answer was “I am a sinner”, but more concretely, he explained that he was thinking about Caravaggio’s painting The Calling of St. Matthew (pictured at right) saying: “That’s me. I feel like him … Here, this is me, a sinner whom the Lord has turned his gaze."
From tax collector to evangelist, St. Matthew leaves us a rich gospel driven by the question of sin, of what it means to be Christian and Jewish and to encounter the risen Lord.
"What do you want me to do for you?"
They Answered him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."
We will be journeying together through the second half of Matthew’s Gospel; reading, praying and discussing the Word of God. Breaking the word open together helps us to encounter Christ and grow as his disciples and in community.
For this Zoom experience, the team, led by Glenda Ong, returns for a high-quality Bible Study with a resource from Catholic publisher Little Rock Scripture Study. Steve Picard from the Catholic Bible Institute joins our team as a facilitator.
A copy of the study guide will be provided for the participants.
Cost: $25 - includes book and materials.
Sessions held on Mondays (10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9) from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Scripture Encounter journeyed through Matthew’s Gospel: reading, praying and discussing the Word of God. Breaking the word open together helped them to encounter Christ and grow as his disciples and in community. In the words of one of the participants:
“I enjoy the Scripture Encounter because of the opportunity it provides me to interact with individuals who share the same goal of a desire to move closer to God by going deeper to understand His words and letting them come alive. Studying the scripture by myself, I am limited to my own experience, understanding, and interpretations, however, the group discussions allow me to expand beyond my own realm of understanding and provide me with insight to grow in faith.”
We thank the team around Steve, Glenda, Marianne, Angie, Martin, and Jim.
