ALL ministries/initiatives are encouraged to compose debrief articles to be published AFTER an event. We need to share our experiences with others—that perhaps wanted to go, but could not. And—of course—hope that inspires them for next time! Being a storyteller is an important component of the new evangelization.
Here are some prompts that might help guide an article:
- offer direct quotes from participants
- recognize/thank the team and anyone else who made significant contributions to the success of the event
- recognize/thank the participants for taking part in the experience
- celebrate significant accomplishments from the event
- provide quantitative results reporting
(e.g. 35 retreatants, up from previous years, spectrum of demographics, etc.) - convey a sense of what the experience is like
(senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste) - include action-oriented/scene-setting photos (try to avoid group stand-and-smile)
- conclude with a specific connection to SMCC mission:
“To form loving disciples who will transform the world.”
Good length: 3–5 sentences (60–100 words), although more is always better!
