An Evening with Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, Psy.D.

Thursday, Aug. 12, our Black Lives Matter Too Committee welcomes Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, author of The Spiritual Work of Racial Justice: A Month of Mediations with Ignatius of Loyola, an in-person and zoom presentation and reception, including a book signing opportunity. Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, PsyD, currently teaches in the psychology department at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, and he is also a practicing Psychotherapist. The book was designed to lead the reader through a month-long Ignatian "retreat" focusing on racial justice - and we are excited for our community has an opportunity to learn from this great work!

a zoom. After the presentation, we welcome our in-person guests for a reception and book signing opportunity.

Ignatian spirituality offers us tools for today's anti-racist struggle, tools that are both spiritual and practical. As Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, explains, the legacy of Ignatius of Loyola is accessible, not only to Jesuits, and not only Catholics, but to all followers of Christ. The book inspires our inner journeys, while also fueling racial justice in our outer world, challenging us to see the hidden parts of us that may collaborate with systematic racism and affirming the power of the Divine possibility embedded in even the darkest aspect of our world.

We are honored to have Patrick Saint-Jean, SJ, with us to unlade the burdens and tangled spiritual work of addressing racial injustice, first in ourselves and in our community.

About the Black Lives Matter Too Committee

The Black Lives Matter Too Committee was formed after the murder of George Floyd in May, 2020. We have seen and experienced the sin of racism and the injustices that have affected people of color for far too long and demand change.

Our goals are three-fold:

  • To stand in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters.
  • To make our community a more welcoming place for everyone regardless of their race or ethnicity.
  • To support those in our faith community to be actionable and resilient champions for equity and justice for Black people.
