St. Monica Catholic Community will sponsor opportunities to put our faith into action throughout the year. We will visit locations where parishioners will help those in need and/or support good causes that highlight our faith’s call to justice. In September we invite parishioners to lace up their walking or running shoes and join the caravan to downtown Los Angeles and the Homeboy 5K run/walk.
Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. For over 30 years Homeboys has provided training and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated people. Homeboy provides case management, legal services, mental health services, tattoo removal, support for those challenged by substance abuse, workforce development, and much more.
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, Homeboys hosts their annual 5k Run/Walk. St. Monica parishioners are invited to join the St. Monica Team and walk or run to raise funds for their outreach. All are also invited to come and enjoy the fiesta of live entertainment, laughter, and kinship which begins at 8:30am.
Mary Jo Dalton is heading the St. Monica Catholic Community team. She shares:
“I am walking the Homeboy 5K to support the wonderful organization Fr. Greg Boyle has founded. For the past 30-plus years, Fr. Greg has rehabilitated many boys and girls who have been in gangs and/or in prison to find a home with Homeboys, creating a loving community.”
