Young People are the Future of Kenya - Let's Support Them!

Like St. Monica's YMA, our Sister Parish, Holy Cross Dandora, has a very active young adult community that HCAM Education Fund began to support after our trip in 2018. We’ve worked the last three years to strengthen outreach to at-risk children through music and sports, and thanks to your generosity, we provided life-saving emergency support to many families during the pandemic.

Great Success of the Past Years

HCAM Education Fund continues to support students and fund programs at St. James School.  We have provided scholarships to over 150 students, and currently provide tuition for 18 elementary, 20 high school, 6 tailoring school and 1 university student.

We have also helped the Calvary Warriors Basketball team grow from 50 to nearly 300 members which includes both boys and girls from 6 to 21 years of age. We renovated the basketball court and provided uniforms and equipment to keep the program running. The basketball court at Holy Cross Dandora has become a very popular sports venue for both visiting teams and spectators!

This year 13 members of Calvary Warriors received outside scholarships to attend high school, bringing us full circle in our mission to improve lives through education. The positive impact of this program is clearly radiating out into the community and donations to HCAM Education Fund have made this possible.

Through sports and music (in 2019 we purchased music instruments and audio equipment that serve the whole community - LINK), we are now able to reach hundreds of youth every week making it more likely they will be safe from the risk of gang and sexual violence that unfortunately affects many young people in Dandora. Your support can help us continue investing in projects that will change hundreds of lives.

Dreams and Hopes for the Future

The pandemic has hit the Dandora community hard. With your help we will provide funding to the Calvary Warriors Basketball Team, strengthen outreach to at-risk youth, and develop new opportunities for employment in the community along with providing scholarships for the neediest children.

During our trip to Kenya in 2022, we will discuss new proposals. The Dandora youth have started operating a youth-run cafe (similar to Holy Grounds!) that is able to provide training and employment to their members, and there may be opportunities to help accelerate this initiative.
